Colouration of an onion skin

LB4.1.2.4
Colouration of an onion skin
Colouration of an onion skin

Description

In this experiment, the students microscope an onion skin stained with methylene blue. They realise that staining microscope slides leads to higher contrast images and that selective staining of certain cell compartments is possible. In the case of methylene blue as a vital dye, the cell walls and cell nuclei of onion cells are stained particularly strongly.
