Description

The ketone 2-propanone (acetone) is one of the most important solvents in the chemical industry and is also used in everyday life for cleaning. It mixes with polar water and with non-polar substances such as oils. In the household, it is used as a nail polish remover and for cleaning dirty surfaces. In this experiment, the students learn about acetone and find out what properties make it such a good solvent.
