Description

In this experiment, the students examine various plastic samples for their formability and temperature resistance. In doing so, the monomers can be identified through an odour sample in the case of incomplete combustion. The students also recognise the connection between a high degree of cross-linking and poor combustibility. This enables them to classify thermoplastics, thermosets and elastomers and to assign specific properties to the respective type of plastic.
