Production of soap via alkaline saponification

Description

Soaps are the sodium salts or potassium salts of fatty acids. In this experiment, the students make soap themselves using the cold process. They learn that adding sodium hydroxide solution to fats or oils at a temperature of about 50 °C leads to saponification and test the soap they have made.
