Description

Oil and water cannot be mixed due to their different polarity. However, if a surfactant is added, a homogeneous phase is formed. Surfactants are molecules with hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts. Due to the hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties of surfactants, polar and non-polar substances can be mixed homogeneously. In this experiment, the students experience this property of surfactants.
