Water-solubility of different alkanols

LC2.3.3.3
Water-solubility of different alkanols
Water-solubility of different alkanols

Description

In this experiment, different alkanols are mixed with water to test their solubility in water. If ethanol is soluble in water, 1-pentanol is not soluble in water. The students discover that the chain length of the alkanols has an influence on the solubility in water and can thus work out the homologous series.
