Description

In this experiment the students analyse three different indicators. For this, they use the indicators methyl orange, bromothymol blue and phenolphthalein in the titration of sodium hydroxide solution against hydrochloric acid. They measure the pH value at the turnover point of the indicator with a pH electrode. The students realise that the turnover point of the indicator does not necessarily correspond to the equivalence point. The students learn that not every indicator is suitable for every titration and can estimate which indicator they should use for this titration.
