Complementary crossed gratings (Babinet’s principle)

LP5.3.2.2
Complementary crossed gratings (Babinet’s principle)
Complementary crossed gratings (Babinet’s principle)

Description

This experiment is a consolidation of the Gap and Bar experiment. The students learn that Babinet's principle also applies to two-dimensional gratings. The crossed grating forms the transition from the line grating to the space grating, as is the case with regularly arranged atoms or ions in crystals. Thus, this experiment can be used very well as a basis for the diffraction of X-rays at a crystal grating (Laue diagrams).
