Detection of multiple bonds

LC2.2.2.1
Detection of multiple bonds
Detection of multiple bonds

Description

In this experiment, bromine water is used to distinguish between the alkane cyclohexane and the alkene cyclohexene. Cyclohexene decolours the bromine water due to the presence of a double bond. Bromine reacts with double bonds in an electrophilic addition.
