Differentiation of methanol and ethanol

LC2.3.2.1
Differentiation of methanol and ethanol
Differentiation of methanol and ethanol

Description

In this experiment, the students learn to distinguish ethanol and methanol from each other by the colouration of the flame. The different colouring results from the length of the carbon chain in the compounds. This means, that this can also be a first experiment on the homologous series of alkanols.
