Description

In solids, current is transported by electrons. Only substances that have free electrons can conduct electricity (1st order conductor). In metals the electrons are in a cloud around the atomic nucleus and can easily move from one atomic nucleus to the next. They therefore conduct electric current. In experiment C4.4.1.5 different metals and non-metals are examined for their conductivity.
