Experimental procedures are carried out with transformers on experimental plates and with profile frames.
Learning objectives
- Protective measures and electrical safety
- Setup of power systems according to circuit diagrams
- Use of a power analyser as a measuring device
In the toroidal transformer, the transformer core is designed as a ring. Soft iron or ferrites are used as the core material. Due to the type of construction, the transformer has only a low magnetic leakage. However, the winding technology is more complex than with conventional designs. The inrush current of toroidal transformers can reach very high values and must be limited in practice by suitable measures.
Highlights
With the 1-phase transformer, the Power Analyser can be used to calculate the equivalent circuit diagram in particular. The hysteresis of the transformer iron is analysed in a test and compared with the iron losses from the open-circuit test.
Measuring and media system
The experiments can be carried out with the 7731901 machine test CASSY or with the Power Analyser CASSY.
The Power Analyser CASSY Plus can be operated quickly in all functions directly via the display, the rotary knob and the buttons on the device. All settings and measurement results can be saved on the device and quickly called up again later or simply downloaded.
In addition, the Power Analyser CASSY Plus can be fully controlled in real time via RJ45 Ethernet, W-LAN and USB-C interfaces.
These interfaces can be used by the following software
- CASSY Lab 2 for drives and energy systems,
- MATLAB® and LabVIEW ™
- Lab Docs Editor Advanced
The following integrated servers are available in the Power Analyser CASSY for the local media connection of at least four end devices simultaneously.
For more details, please refer to the product data 727111 Power Analyser CASSY Plus.
Target group
The target group is industrial trainees and students specialising in electrical engineering. The course offers experiments at an intermediate level for vocational schools and at the same time provides the necessary insights into machine behaviour for a scientific interpretation in the bachelor's degree course. The media connection makes the experiments suitable for demonstration in the classroom or a lecture theatre.
The following equipment includes extended experiments with transformers:
- E2.2.1.1 Three-phase transformer
- E2.2.1.2 Scott transformer
- E2.2.1.4 AC transformer
- E2.2.1.5 AC autotransformer
